I started Lifesaving in 1989, gaining my standard resuscitation and Bronze Medallion qualification.

I progressed through the various RLSS awards until I achieved my Distinction the following year.

I qualified as a Teacher in 1992, Examiner in 1993 and Advisor in 1995.

I was awarded the Service Medal for Lifesaving in 2004 and the Service Cross in 2012.

I started teaching at Pentwyn Lifesaving Club in 1992 and have been here ever since!

I enjoy all aspects of Lifesaving, particularly when seeing someone succeed in gaining an award after overcoming initial difficulties.

Probably my proudest achievements in Lifesaving was gaining my Distinction for the first time and being told of how people I had previously taught had treated their children who were choking.

It is nice to know that what we teach really can and does make a difference.

Most embarrassing moment was when teaching infant choking and emphasising the importance of firm back blows.

As I struck my first ‘firm blow’ the head fell off, rolled across the floor, through an open door and into the corridor!

Three things you may not know about me:

1. I co-wrote two Lifesaving training hand books.

2. I have visited all four extremes of mainland Britain. Most northern, southern, western and eastern points.

3. I took part in a fundraising 24 hour non-stop CPR challenge!
