Rookie Lifeguard - Bronze Awards

RLSS UK’s Rookie Lifeguard programme is taught using colourful materials, and fun, varied lifesaving and rescue activities to give children the skills they need to be confident in the pool or the sea and enjoy water safely, whether in shallow or deeper water.

Bronze 1 Syllabus

Here you can find all the components that make up this award.

BRONZE 1:

1. Demonstrate a non-panicking casualty
2. Demonstrate a panicking casualty
3. Demonstrate an unconscious casualty

BRONZE 1:

Tread water for 1 minute, use your arms to
occasionally signal for help

BRONZE 1:

1. Enter shallow water safely and confidently
2. Climb out of deep water without using the steps

BRONZE 1:

Holding a buoyant aid, use any leg kick to move 15m to the poolside

BRONZE 1:

1. Swim front crawl or breaststroke continuously for 25m
2. Swim lifesaving backstroke continuously for 25m

BRONZE 1:

Using a buoyant aid, hold the HELP position for
1 minute

BRONZE 2:

1. Demonstrate a shout and signal rescue of a casualty 5m away
2. Using a buoyant aid, demonstrate a throwing rescue of a casualty 5m away

BRONZE 2:

Tread water for 1 minute, use your arms to
occasionally signal for help

BRONZE 2:

1. Enter deep water safely and confidently
2. Climb out of deep water without using the steps

BRONZE 2:

Holding a buoyant aid, use any leg kick to move 25m to the poolside

BRONZE 2:

1. Wearing clothing, swim freestyle continuously for 50m
2. Swim lifesaving backstroke continuously for 50m

BRONZE 2:

Using a buoyant aid, hold the HELP position for
2 minutes

BRONZE 3:

1. Demonstrate a reaching rescue of a casualty 2m away.
2. Demonstrate a rope throw rescue of a casualty of 8m away

BRONZE 3:

Tread Water for 1 minute using your arms to signal for help every 30 seconds, then:
Move 2m backwards, move 2m to the right, move 2m to the left

BRONZE 3:

Enter shallow water and wade to a casualty 5m away, then: Throw a buyoant aid to the casualty
Instruct casualty to kick their legs and climb out of the water without using the steps

BRONZE 3:

Swim head-up lifesaving backstroke continously for 50m, then use a buoyant aid hold the HELP position for 2 minutes 30 seconds, then remove additional clothing whilst in the water

BRONZE 3:

Wearing Clothing: Enter deep water safely and confidently then swim freestyle continuously for 50m

BRONZE 3:

Scull head first for 15m then scull feet first for 15m, then perform a feet first surface dive and swim underwater for 5m, then climb out of deep water, without using the steps
